Every day we are being told as a society that we are getting unhealthier and we need to do something about it. Yet every day a new ‘miracle’ diet or exercise machine is brought out that seems to contradict what we were told last week! This vast amount of information has lead to a lot of very understandable confusion regarding the best plan of attack when we think about improving our health.
I believe in getting back to basics. The old saying of you are what you eat is still as true today as when it was invented. The human body makes 2million new blood cells a second and these cells need to be made out of something, so yep you guessed it, the food we eat provide the building blocks of our tissues. So are you eating the type of material to build a strong house or will it fall over from the slightest breeze??! The obvious questions then are…
What’s the best food to eat for weight loss? Should I be eating this?
Is exercise safe for me and what’s the best type? Can I exercise on my medication?
As far as food goes we need to eat to what is right for our individual bodies or ‘metabolic type’ (www.metabolictyping.co.uk), eat as much locally grown, organic produce (that is as close to its natural state) as possible and drink plenty of filtered water. Your body is like a car, if you put the right fuel in it will run smoothly, if you put garbage in you get a similar response! Your body has an amazing capability to recover, so once the body gets used to receiving the right quantity and quality of fuels then it will begin to operate a lot closer to its potential, in other words losing weight, getting over aches, pains, medical conditions and basically get you feeling a whole lot better!
One of the most common questions I get asked is ‘What’s the best exercise to lose weight?’ I personally think the best exercise you can do is the one you will do most often. You could have the best program in the world but if you don’t do it then it won’t be of any use! The human body is one of the very few things that actually get better the more you use it. It is an amazing piece of equipment that requires movement to maintain function, so the more you move the more you’ll benefit. Exercise also needs to be fun, so try and pick things you enjoy and mix it up as much as possible to keep it entertaining, get your friends involved (a little nagging or competition is always healthy!)
Here at APW I aim to help people create a lifestyle that firstly creates great results but also is one that can be enjoyed and maintained. I am constantly researching, studying and trying out the latest techniques so that I can pass them on and help people achieve the levels of health they’ve always been looking for. Looking after your body is a long term commitment. You’ll be amazed how little changes can bring about benefits that are more than worth it.
